Tyra Calderwood’s journey in racket sports is a testament to talent, drive, and ongoing inspiration. Growing up in Sydney Australia, Tyra quickly rose through the tennis ranks, capturing national championships in the 12s, 14s, and 16s—firmly establishing herself as one of the nation’s brightest junior talents.
Her outstanding junior career was highlighted by reaching an ITF Junior World Ranking of No. 33, marking her as one of the world’s top Junior players. Tyra’s dedication, resilience, and relentless pursuit of excellence carried her onto the professional stage, where she achieved a career-high WTA singles ranking of 607 and a doubles ranking of 190.
Never one to shy from new challenges, Tyra transitioned her competitive drive to pickleball. She was a finalist in the inaugural National Pickleball League (NPL) season with the ALIENS and served as team captain in both season 2 and season 3—demonstrating outstanding leadership alongside athletic excellence. In recognition of her skill and reputation, Tyra was selected to represent the Chennai Super Champs in the World Pickleball League, that took place in January 2025—an international honour that highlights her impact on the sport.
Off the tour and onto new courts, Tyra now channels her passion and expertise as Head Tennis Coach at Pymble Ladies’ College—one of Sydney’s premier educational institutions. She is committed to building future champions, advancing youth development, and inspiring confidence, discipline, and enjoyment in every athlete she mentors.
Championing women in sport and youth empowerment, Tyra is widely respected for her positivity, expertise, and ability to connect with athletes at all stages of their development. Her story is not just one of personal achievement, but of creating pathways for others to succeed.
